CSIP Seminar: Audio Signal Processing Applications for the Smart Automobile

Abstract:

People spend a significant part of their lives in vehicles for various reasons including daily commutes, family trips, and business trips. There is a high demand for signal processing applications providing safety, assistance, entertainment, and relaxation, which is further amplified as the industry moves towards autonomous vehicles.  However, the demand for signal processing for the automotive environment creates unique challenges due to the fact that a vehicle cabin is an inherently harsh environment. The cabin moves at varying speeds, experiences varying engine and road noises mixed with audio signals, which reverberate unpredictably as they interact with different types of cabin material. This seminar provides an overview of the challenges presented by the automotive environment as well as insight into some of the existing and future audio signal processing solutions.
