Speaker: Prof. Faramarz Fekri Title: Wavelets over Finite Field and their Applications to Error Control Coding and Security Date: April 25, 2003 Time: 3:00 pm Location: GCATT Room 325 Abstract: In this talk, we survey briefly our research activities on wavelets over finite fields and their applications to coding and security. We overview fundamental
results on the construction of one and two dimensional filter banks over finite fields. Then, we show that wavelets provide promises for new approaches to the error control coding and cryptography. We concisely discuss some results on error correcting codes such as self-dual codes and time-varying codes. We also present our proposed wavelet based cryptographic system and current results on the cryptanalysis attacks.Biography: Faramarz Fekri received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Sharif University of Technology and the Ph.D. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2000. Since 2000 he has been on the faculty of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
His current research interests lie in the general field of signal processing and communications, in particular, wavelets and filter banks, error control coding, cryptography and communication security. His work on finite-field wavelets and their application to error control coding received the Sigma Xi Best Ph.D. Thesis Award of the Georgia Institute of Technology (2000). Dr. Fekri also received the National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2001.Slides:
