Chris Turnes is a doctoral student at Georgia Tech, working on his PhD thesis under Dr. Justin Romberg. Before coming to Atlanta, he attended high school at Calvert Hall in Towson, MD, and subsequently finished his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering. He arrived in Atlanta in August 2007, and joined Dr. Romberg's lab in Spring 2008. Since then, he has focused his research on a variety of topics under the central theme of "efficient algorithms for structured matrices." The genesis of this topic was his work with non-uniform discrete Fourier transforms for 3-D MRI, which led him to study multilevel Toeplitz matrices.
